A tool designed to contain an image becomes the image.
As a contemporary artist experimenting with different mediums and materials, I am always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of creativity. Marching Ants is no exception.
The captivating movement of the selection tool led me to think about how much we sometimes need calm. I began making these compositions hoping the process would soothe my anxiety. I did not expect that watching them would help too. It soothes me; I wish it soothes others.
Instead of using the marching ants as an assistant to painting, I use them as material. Screen recordings capture the moving drawings before they are processed in video software into the final works. The technique explores simplicity and the power of hacking tools in art: breaking rules, finding unexpected paths, and building my own way through them as a self-taught artist.
